Werribee City is stuck on an island at the bottom of the National Premier League 2 west soccer ladder.

The Bees are the only team in the league without a point after two rounds, despite showing flashes of good play in both games against sides who seem destined to be promotion contenders this season. Moreland Zebras, one of the highly-rated teams in the lead-up to the season, were on a smash and grab mission in a 1-0 win at Galvin Park on Saturday evening.

A 16th minute goal from Zebras’ John Maclean was enough to spoil the day for the Bees in their home opener.

In the FFA Cup, Truganina Hornets whacked Glen Waverley 6-1 in the first round at the Knox Regional Football Centre on Saturday.

The Hornets have drawn Corio as a home fixture in this Saturday’s second round.

Point Cook also got off to a flying start with a 4-1 win over Bundoora United at Saltwater Reserve. The Jets will hit the road to face Somerville Eagles in the second round on Saturday.
