Weekend sports wrap

VSDCA

Werribee continued on its winning ways in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west beating Oakleigh. Oakleigh made 8-208 from its overs, with Samuel Jones top scoring with 71. Hamish Winter-Irving and Tim O’Brien took two wickets each. The Tigers made 6-211 to secure the win. Winter-Irving top scored with 71 not out. Hoppers Crossing suffered a loss to Malvern. The two Wyndham teams play each other this coming Saturday.

VTCA

Werribee Centrals put in a dominant display against Laverton in Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 3. Laverton was bowled out for just 107, before Centrals made 2-112 in reply. Point Cook also had a win, beating Pascoe Vale Hadfield. Point Cook made 7-119 in reply to Pascoe Vale’s 9-118. Despite the wins, Centrals and Point Cook remain in the bottom part of the table, only ahead of Laverton.

Baseball

Werribee had a solid win against Ormond Glenhuntly on Sunday in Baseball Victoria summer league division 2. The Giants claimed the win 4-1. The Giants sit fifth on the ladder, but are on the same amount of wins as fourth placed Doncaster. The Giants this week face Williamstown on Thursday night, before facing Port Melbourne on Sunday.

Bowls

Werribee were on fire in Bowls Victoria weekend pennant division 2, section 1. Werribee claimed all 18 points in the 116 (18)-51 (0) win against Essendon (2). Robert Panton’s rink was the big winner, winning 35-12, while Brendan Barker’s rink won 32-9. Werribee sit second on the ladder, eight points behind Deer park (2).
