A week earlier, the Tigers had the better of the first half against Collingwood before conceding an incredible succession of third-quarter goals that had them on the back foot then coping with defeat.
The Tigers went down in a similar manner to the Blues, controlling most of the play in the first half to lead by eight points at half-time, only to go missing in the third and conceding eight goals to two that would prove the turning point.
