Another fade-out gives Tigers the Blues

Werribee Tigers had an unwanted case of deja vu in a four-point loss to Northern Blues in the Victorian Football League at Ikon Park on Saturday.

A week earlier, the Tigers had the better of the first half against Collingwood before conceding an incredible succession of third-quarter goals that had them on the back foot then coping with defeat.

The Tigers went down in a similar manner to the Blues, controlling most of the play in the first half to lead by eight points at half-time, only to go missing in the third and conceding eight goals to two that would prove the turning point.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the Tigers to come back from five goals down at three-quarter time, but they dug in to make it a close contest in time-on of the last quarter, ultimately falling short by less than a kick.

Jake Wilson was named best for the Tigers, along with Jye Bolton, Mason Wood and Matt Hanson.

Kayne Turner, Majak Daw and Kieran Harper booted three goals apiece for the Tigers.

Having lost three of their past four matches, the bye has come at the perfect time for the Tigers to freshen up ahead of their clash with Coburg in a fortnight.

Despite the lull in form, the Tigers remain in the top-four hunt with a 6-4 record.

Meanwhile, Werribee Tigers had a two-point win over Northern Blues in the development league, with Braden Ferrari capping a best-on-ground effort with two goals and Bol Kolang and Aaron Christensen each snaring three.
