Point Cook has blown away the cobwebs with a three-wicket win over Newport-Digman in their Victorian Turf Cricket Association north-west B1 season opener at Saltwater Reserve.
In a Saturday game that went down the wire, the Warriors passed the victory target in the last over to secure a winning start to the season.
Newport-Digman was restricted to 6-141 off its 40 overs.
The early going was tough for the Bulls, who were facing on-target Warrior captain Chris Armstrong, who snared 3-19 off seven overs.
Point Cook laid the foundations for a successful run chase when its top order fired.
Harpreet Singh (35), Scott Maloney (32), Armstrong (31) and James Peterson (23) all got among the runs for the Warriors.
In north-west A1, Werribee Centrals got off to a horrible start to the season, losing by 66 runs to Westmeadows at Galvin Park.
The Centurions struggled with the bat to be all out for 70 in 37.5 overs, nowhere near enough to trouble Westmeadows.
In an encouraging sign for the Centurions bowling attack, they did manage to bowl Westmeadows out for 136.
In west A1, Seabrook opened the season with a five-wicket win over Melton South Royals at Blackwood Reserve.
Chasing 157 for victory, the Saints cruised to the target on the back of impressive knocks from captain Leigh Edwards (62no) and opener Casey McNaught (59).
Bellbridge had the bye last round, but will kickstart its season on home turf against Grand United on Saturday.
