Tigers give kids a cricketing lesson

Werribee head coach Mitch Johnstone (left) and player Chris Hennessy will be involved in the clinic.

A free cricket clinic in Werribee over the school holidays is aimed at encouraging children in the west to lead healthier, more active lives.

The clinic at Soldiers Reserve will be hosted by Werribee Cricket Club in partnership with real estate developer Dacland.

Tigers head coach Mitch Johnstone will be one of the club members helping youngsters hone their skills for the new season.

“In this day and age when fast food restaurants can be found on many street corners and playing on PlayStation is more popular than playing outside, it’s important
to lead an active, healthy lifestyle,” Johnstone said.

“Cricket is one way you can do this. It has many health benefits, including building up your endurance, stamina and balance, as well as improving your hand-eye coordination.

“There are also many social benefits in being involved in a team sport like cricket, in particular, teamwork, communication and discipline.”

Dacland, which has a strong presence in the west with a number of estates, including King’s Leigh in Werribee, Rothwell Villages in Tarneit, and Wynbrook in Wyndham Vale, is a major sponsor of Werribee Cricket Club.

The clinic is open to children aged seven to 12 with all levels of ability. It will be held on October 2 from 10am.
