A packed forward line leads the Western Region Football League division 3 team of the year.
The team, which was announced last week, in the lead up to the grand final, contained players from all but one team.
Minor premiers, the Suns, had the most players named in the team with six players.
Star forward Dean Cachia, who has kicked 100 goals this season, was named at centre half forward, while Adam Scarpino, Zach Thornton, Blake Jago, Michael Ryan and Josh Foster were also named in the team.
Cachia was also named coach of the team of the year for his role in leading the Suns.
Fellow grand finalists Braybrook and Albanvale, which was knocked out in the preliminary final, have five players each named in the team of the year.
The lethal Brookers forward combination of Shaun Buttigieg-Clarke and Matthew Turcinovich were named alongside each other in the forward line. Between them they had kicked 150 goals for the season entering the grand final.
Albanvale’s Brendan Cassar, who was named at full back, was named captain of the year. The Cobras key forward of Liam Montrose and Nathan Johnson were also named in the team.
There were three Sunshine Heights, two Tarneit and one Laverton player also named in the team of the year.
Meanwhile, Hoppers Crossing’s Ashlin Brown was named the division one most valuable player, which was voted by the division 1 coaches.
Coaches vote using a five, four, three, two, one voting system, voting for players who embody leadership, versatility, ability to play under pressure, skill and courage, respect for all umpires and overall value to their team.
Brown polled 19 votes to finish six votes clear of Deer Park’s Bailey Morrish. Five coaches gave Brown votes.
Hoppers Crossing’s Josh Pickess finished third on 12 votes.
