West Point will have to make its run from a long way back, but all options are now up for grabs for it in the second half of the Football Victoria men’s state league 5 west season.
An upset 1-0 win over ladder leader Barwon at Tom Roberts Reserve on Saturday has seen West Point move to within seven points of the top side.
Jonathon Camilleri was the match-winner for West Point, scoring a last-gasp goal in the 89th minute.
In men’s state league 3, Point Cook had an eruption of goals in a 6-3 win over Westvale at McKechnie Reserve on Friday night.
In men’s state league 4, Truganina Hornets are in freefall on the ladder.
The Hornets have lost their past three games, including a 3-1 defeat to Melbourne University last Saturday.
The ninth-placed Hornets will have a strong chance to get back into the winners’ circle at home this Saturday when they entertain a Gisborne side that conceded a whopping 10 goals last start.
In the NPL, Werribee City had a thrilling 2-2 draw with Geelong at Stead Park on Saturday night.
The Bees have extended their lead at the top of the ladder to two points after second-placed St Albans Saints slipped up again.
Carlin Feely was the star for the Bees with a double.
Werribee City will host seventh-placed Brunswick City at Galvin Park on Saturday.
In women’s state league 4, it was a goal feast for Point Cook in a 11-0 mauling of Barnstoneworth United.
Melissa Naumovska, with five goals, and Regina Mariel, with three, led the charge for the Jets.
West Point went down 2-1 to Kyneton District.
