Wyndham Community Boxing Club rising star Parek Wol’s recovery is almost complete.

Wol, a two-time state title holder, has endured a wretched run of injuries, with a neck issue last year followed by ankle ligament damage this year.

But Wol is ready to get back into the ring with an Adelaide fight lined up for September.

“That will be his first fight back,” trainer Darren Cowley told Star Weekly.

“We want to take the pressure off him and give him a fight interstate.”

Wol was highly rated before his injuries struck.

Plans for him to go to Olympic trials never eventuated as he spent time in the medical room.

With Wol’s injuries in the rear view mirror, Cowley is hopeful the boxer can get a clear run to extract the most out of his boxing talent.

“Parek can be anything,” Cowley said. “He’s very focused, very diligent with his training and diet and everything else. He’s a very mobile and agile fighter. There’s better judges than I that reckon he’s up there with the top two or three in Australia.”

Wol is just one of several Wyndham boxers with bright futures.

Desiree Maaka recently returned from a kickboxing title fight in New Zealand where she took the champ to the limit.

Maaka has untapped potential in boxing but Cowley likes what he sees in these early days.

“She’s been doing kickboxing and MMA, so boxing is a new discipline to her,” Cowley said.

“She’s had two boxing fights for me and split one win and one loss.”

Regan Marino holds the novice junior state middleweight title and is warming up for a shot at a state intermediate title this weekend.

Sy Leafa also has a big fight this weekend as he seeks revenge on Sebastian Karner.

Cowley expects his gym to be bursting with new faces after the Rio Olympics.

“Every time the Olympics are on or a

Rocky movie comes out, you get a few more in the gym for a while,” he said.
