Wyndham’s men’s side made it two from two to start the Big V championship season, while the women’s side went down in a thriller.

Wyndham hosted Melbourne University on Saturday night and had to dig deep to come away with the win.

Wyndham started the better of the two teams and led by nine points at quarter time.

The margin was decreased to just one point at half time.

Melbourne University kept the pressure on and levelled the scores heading into the final break.

Wyndham stepped up a level in the last quarter to run away with a 96-86 win.

Myles Thomas scored 30 points for Wyndham, including six from 10 from beyond the three point arc. He also had 12 rebounds.

Aaron Dolny provided a spark off the bench with 27 points, while Troyce Manassa filled the stats sheet with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and five steals.

The women’s side lost its first regular season match since 2022, losing to the Warrnambool Mermaids on Saturday night.

On the road, Wyndham led by one point at the first break, before trailing by four points at the main break.

The margin was reduced to three points heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams traded the lead in the final quarter, with a Dakota Crichton put the Mermaids back in front with six seconds to go and it would be enough to win 75-74.

Wyndham captain Amanda Paschal top scored with 28 points, while Julie Brosseau and Jamilee Pearce had 18 points each.

Wyndham host Hume City Broncos on Saturday night, before both the men’s and women’s teams face the McKinnon Cougars on Sunday.
