Wyndham started the Big V men’s state championship with a massive win against the Hume City Broncos on Sunday.
The new-looking Wyndham team jumped out of the block and led by 14 points at the first break.
That margin would extend to 20 points at the main break.
The Broncos would respond in the third quarter, but were only able to reduce the deficit by two points, with Wydnham maintaining a match winning lead.
With the game already over, Wyndham finished it off in style with a 34-15 final quarter to seal the 126-89 win.
All 10 Wyndham players took to the court, playing at least eight minutes each, in a promising sign for the depth of the squad.
Maurice Howard top scored with 27 points, while Manel Ayol had 26 points and also had 10 rebounds to lead the way.
All but one player got on the scoreboard.
The men’s side will face Western Port on Sunday in round two.
It was a tougher start for the women’s side, with Wyndham losing 71-60 to Chelsea Gulls on Saturday night.
It was a topsy turvy first half, with Wyndham leading by two points at the main break.
The Gulls stepped it up in the second half, outscoring Wyndham in both the last two quarters to seal the win.
Amanda Paschal top scored with 14 points, while also having nine rebounds, five assists and five steals. She played all 40 minutes.
Lyndsey Hoogenhout chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
The women have a double header this weekend playing Bulleen Boomers on Saturday night and Southern Peninsula on Sunday.
Wyndham’s youth league men’s side had a 99-44 loss, while the women’s youth league one team had a 72-67 win against the Frankston Blues.
The match went to overtime, with Wyndham outscoring the Blues 10-5 to seal the win.
