Nothing changes for Werribee as it seeks a third straight Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association premiership.
The Tigers have been the team to beat in recent years and with the core group sticking together are expected to be among the mix in the east-west group this season.
Tigers captain Tim O’Brien said they were looking forward to getting back out there. The Tigers were set to play the first day of their two-day clash with Spotswood this Saturday but play was cancelled more than a week out.
Round one is now a one-dayer with the hope that it will get underway next Saturday.
“The weather hasn’t been great,” he said. “We’ve been hanging to get back into it.
“Our ground we haven’t been able to get on with footy finishing only a couple of weeks ago.”
The key for the Tigers in recent times has been their ability to keep the core group of players together.
It’s the case again this season.
“We’re looking pretty good and kept most of the playing group together,” O’Brien said.
“Hamish Winter-Irving is over in Adelaide due to work opportunities.
“Everyone else is staying around and giving it another shot.”
O’Brien said the key for them had been the spread of contributors across the board, with the group not relying on one or two players to dominate.
With their second XI going through the regular season undefeated, before an early finals exit, the club has plenty of depth as well.
O’Brien said the focus for them is pretty simple.
“We want to try and enjoy our cricket like the last few years,” he said.
“Going back to two-day cricket this year, we’re looking forward to that.
“We have improved our one-day game, but the guys are keen to get back into red ball cricket.”
Hoppers Crossing is set to face Yarraville at home in their opening round match.
