Jolley takes out fourth Callaham Medal

Williamstown’s premiership captain, Ben Jolley (pictured), has won a record-equalling fourth Gerry Callahan Medal.

The tough-as-nails onballer polled 87 votes in the VFL club’s best and fairest to finish clear of swingman Sam Dunell (79) and midfielder Mitch Banner (75). Jolley made it back-to-back best-and-fairest’s for a second time in his career, having achieved that feat in the 2011 and ’12 seasons.

He will go down as one of the Seagulls’ greats and draws level with hall of fame member Kim Kershaw’s record mark of four Callahan Medals. This medal, won for a season in which he guided the Seagulls to a long-awaited flag, will undoubtedly be Jolley’s most treasured.

He averaged 27 possessions a game this season with a high mark of 38 in the round-19 loss to Werribee and kept up his consistency in the finals, averaging 26 touches a game including 24 in the Seagulls’ grand final win over Box Hill.

Jake Greiser claimed the development league best-and-fairest from premiership teammates Simon Deery and Tyler Curtis.

Life memberships were awarded to Max Atkin, Jami Moran and Cameron Lockwood.
