Imports bolster Wyndham

Wyndham has locked in a couple of key pieces as the side prepares for the Big V women’s division 1 competition.

Dropping down to division 1 after a tough 2025 when it finished bottom in the championship division, Wyndham has looked to strengthen its squad for this season.

Having announced Matt Stephens as coach, Wyndham has announced its first two signings for this season.

Haruna Inamura joins Wyndham after playing in the National Basketball League 1 East competition previously.

Wyndham said Inamura brings strong competitive experience, leadership and versatility on the court.

“I’m incredibly excited to join Wyndham Basketball,” she said.

“I look forward to contributing to the team’s success, connecting with the community and giving everything I have this season.”

Inamura most recently competed in the NBL1 East with the Hornsby Spiders during the 2024 season.

She started in 20 games, averaging 9.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, with shooting splits of 43.3 per cent from the field.

Stephens, who coached Wyndham’s youth league side last season, said they were extremely excited to welcome Inamura to Wyndham basketball.

“Her ability to impact the game, be through scoring, facilitating and leading make her a great fit for our program,” he said.

Shernecia Martin is the other import for Wyndham for this year and will join the club from America.

Martin is a forward-centre from North Carolina and brings a powerful inside presence and elite rebounding ability to the club.

Wyndham said on social media that she is known for her physicality, work ethic and strong court leadership.

Martin most recently starred professionally in Europe, including a standout 2024–25 season with KB Teuta in Albania’s Women’s Superliga where she led the league in rebounds and consistently impacted games on both ends of the floor.

“We are delighted to welcome Shernecia to Wyndham Basketball,” Stephens said.

“Her size, skill set and professional experience will be a huge asset to our roster. Shernecia brings toughness on the boards and a competitive edge that embodies the culture we are building here at Wyndham.”

Martin said she was excited to join the club.

“This is a great opportunity to compete, grow as a player, and help this club reach new heights,” she said.” I can’t wait to hit the floor and get started.”

Both players are expected to arrive in early March ahead of the season kicking off.

The pair are expected to help a young group of Wyndham players who have progressed through the ranks.

Stephens previously told Star Weekly that both their youth league and women’s side would be young.

“We’re going to maintain that pathways for the younger playing group,“ he said.

“The synergy between the two teams will be key.”
