Hume City in last-gasp victory

Hume City left it late to seal the win against Pascoe Vale in the National Premier League on Saturday night.

Scores were level at 1-1 before James Brown scored in the 90th minute to give Hume the lead for the second time.

Hume held on in injury time to claim the 2-1 win, its fifth of the season.

Hume coach Nick Hegarty said the side deserved the three points.

“I thought we dominated for the majority of the game,” he said.

“They made it difficult of us with an extra defender behind the ball.

“It was about being patient and taking our time. A mistake and a bit of luck for them go them back into the game.

“We took it on and got the second goal when we needed it.”

Stevie Hewitt was the other goal scorer for Hume, scoring just before half-time.

Hegarty said it was a solid team performance.

He said half-backs Danny Dixon and Paul Wilson held strong under pressure.

The win keeps Hume in the top bunch of teams, with the side currently sitting in fifth position.

“We are playing some good football and we’re hard to beat and hard to score against,” Hegarty said.

“The team is gelling nicely. We’ve got some important games coming up against good teams … if we can get results, we can establish ourselves and help cement our spot.

“We can’t rest on anything and we’ll keep our heads down and working hard.”

Hegarty said they were unlikely to be very busy during the upcoming transfer period and the club was in a good place with the squad.

“We’ll see who comes available,” he said. “We lost one of our top players, Will Hendon, with an ACL injury, so the likelihood is we’ll replace him.

“Other than that we’re in a good spot.”

In National Premier League 2 west , Whittlesea Ranges remain without a win  after losing to 21-1 Northcote City on Saturday.

Whittlesea will face Moreland Zebras this weekend.
