Hoppers has emerged victorious in the mid-table battle with Maribyrnong Park in Bowls Victoria division 2 at the Hoppers Club on Saturday.

In a hard-fought contest, Hoppers won with an overall score of 83-74, despite splitting the rinks.

The victory keeps Hoppers in the finals race – though its hopes would appear to to be merely mathematical, with five rounds to go and 62 points between the team and fourth spot.

Hoppers will get a chance to tighten that margin when it travels to play Altona in its next match on February 2.

In division 1, Werribee has shown encouraging form since the new year break.

The Bees returned with a thumping win over Lalor and took it up to top-of-the-ladder Moonee Valley before eventually going down 85-64 away on Saturday.

With the bottom three teams failing to obtain a point, the Bees stayed fourth last despite the loss.

Bees player Steve Weston says his side will be confident going into its home game against fourth-placed Fitzroy Victoria on Saturday.
