Hoppers Crossing has broken through for its landmark first win in the Women’s Community Cricket Competition north-west division.

The Cats upset in-form Craigieburn by 18 runs in an absorbing Twenty20 encounter at Hogans Road Reserve on Saturday.

It took a season-best score of 30 from opener Kayla Koropeckyj and a captain’s knock of 35 from Ashleigh Mills to steer the Cats to a competitive 4-117 off 20 overs.

Late runs from Lindsay Tucker (10no) and Madalyn Smith (8no) proved vital for the Cats.

Needing 5.85 runs an over for victory, Craigieburn could not keep up with the required run rate, losing a steady stream of wickets.

They finished on 5-99 with most of the damage for Hoppers Crossing created by Brianna Herman, who took 3-21 off four overs.

Hoppers Crossing will face bottom side EMP-Williamstown Congs in another T20 game at JT Gray Reserve on Sunday.
