Hawks lock in men’s coach

Glen Orden has announced some experienced names to lead the club’s first men’s side in the Western Netball League.

The Hawks, who have been the powerhouse of the WNL competition the past couple of seasons with every team making grand finals, will be one of the sides to have a men’s team in the inaugural competition.

It’s the first time in Victoria a football-netball competition will include a men’s competition.

Magz Simeki will coach the Hawks men’s side in its first year.

“Magz is a passionate leader with a strong background in player development and community netball,” the Hawks said on social media.

“Growing up playing netball in New Zealand, she has gone on to coach across both local and representative levels.

“Her coaching journey includes Altona Netball Association, Westside Saints Netball / SACSNA, MNPC Pacific Cup with Victoria Samoa Netball Association (VSNA), and currently Casey Netball Association.

“Magz brings extensive experience through clinics, school holiday programs, and pathway development focused on nurturing young talent.”

Off court, Simeki is involved with the VSNA in committee roles and as a strength and conditioning coach.

Natu Fannana Tauti has been named team manager.

The pair said they were keen to take on the roles of the new side.

“Our mission is to unite experienced players into one connected team that sets a new standard for excellence, respect, and culture within the club,” they said.

“We aim to compete with purpose, support one another on and off the court, and contribute to a positive shift that strengthens the club now and for years to come.”

The Hawks have also confirmed that Manawa Aranui will coach the club’s division 4 side and Kaleen Dalliston will coach the club’s division 3 side.

Manawa had already been announced as a co-head coach along with Remy Pirihi, who will also coach the division 1 team.
