David Handley is making the move from Carlton to Werribee for this year’s Victorian Football League season.

Werribee announced on Thursday that Handley would join the side for the upcoming season.

Handley joined the Blues midway through the 2021 season, playing two games before the season was called off due to COVID-19.

Last year, Handley played 16 games having nearly 300 disposals for the season, while kicking seven goals.

Werribee football manager Mark Micallef said the club was delighted to secure another strong ball winner with the 23-year-old’s signature.

“We’ve been tracking David for nearly two years and are thrilled to have him sign for 2023,” he said.

“He reads the game well, has good ball winning ability and can also go forward and hit the scoreboard.

“He adds another dimension to our team, and we look forward to his contribution this season.”

Handley is the latest signing for Werribee.

West Australian youngster Cameron Anderson joins the club from Western Australian Football League side Claremont.

The small rebounding defender represented WA in the 2019 under-18 National Championships before going on to play seven league games for the Tigers over the past two seasons.

Micallef said the 21-year-old was an exciting signing for the club.

“Cameron’s a hard running defender with elite speed and the ability to take the game on with his run and carry,” he said.

“He’s cousins with Collingwood’s Bobby Hill and is looking forward to taking his game to another level here in Victoria.

“We think he can learn a lot from our experienced backs and being around the likes of Nick Coughlan and Michael Sodomaco will be great for his development.”

North Ballarat’s Jack Riding’s form in the Ballarat Football League has been rewarded with a VFL contract.

The 22-year-old utility enjoyed a dominant 2022 season capped by selection in the BFL team of the year after kicking 37 goals in 16 games.

“Jack was identified by our recruiters and was invited to our trial day at the start of pre-season,” Micallef said.

“He really impressed the coaching staff with his application and has quickly adapted to learning our style of play.

“He’s got a nice left foot, is damaging forward of the play and around goal, but also has the versatility to play a number of positions on the ground.”
