Greenvale Kangaroos get first win

Greenvale Kangaroos top side has tasted victory for the first time this season.

While there was no action in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition due to games being called off with the wet weather, the Vic Super Slam competition got underway on Sunday.

The Super Slam competition sees Premier teams from across Melbourne to compete to win a spot in the national finals.

The Kangaroos hopes of getting a first up win in the Renegades conference, was derailed before matches even started with one of their star players Beau Webster ruled out through injury.

The Tasmanian state player, who is a guest player for the Kangaroos for the slam, has been ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury.

The Kangaroos started their slam campaign against the Lions, Fitzroy Doncaster’s team.

The Kangaroos made 8-122 from their overs, with Sunam Gautam top scoring with 35.

The match would come down to the final ball of the day, with the Kangaroos managing to restrict the Lions to 6-121, to win by one run.

Simon Branston took two wickets for the Kangaroos.

The Kangaroos faced the Cats, Geelong’s team, in their second match.

The Cats made 7-139 from its overs. Humza Ali and Gautam took two wickets each for the Kangaroos.

The Kangaroos batmen made a few starts at the top of the order, but they weren’t able to maintain it, as they were bowled out for 122.

Jack Potticary top scored for the Kangaroos with 31.

After the first weekend of matches, the Kangaroos sit third, but some teams didn’t get underway due to wet weather causing some grounds to be unplayable on Sunday.

The third round of the competition is on Tuesday night.
