With three wins in six days, tireless Werribee Giants have soared to the top of division 2 of Baseball Victoria’s summer league.
The Giants moved into a share of first place with Berwick City after Saturday’s 6-1 win over Ballarat at President’s Park.
Giants pitcher Josh Lee told Star Weekly the side should be taken seriously after four wins in a row.
“We’re sitting on top now so we’ve definitely sent a message,” he said.
This week is big in more ways than one for Lee. The Giants new recruit is a likely starter for Saturday’s clash with former club Williamstown Wolves at President’s Park and is excited to be able to take it up to his former teammates.
But the day will hold extra special meaning for Lee and the rest of the players who take to the field as the Giants will hold their pink day for breast cancer awareness.
The home team will be decked out in specially made uniforms and proceeds from the day will go to cancer research.
“Cancer has touched my family. I think cancer is something everyone has to focus on,” Lee said. “To be able do something special and to help with the research is awesome.
“A lot of clubs across the nation are really getting behind it.”
With most of the league playing on Sunday, Lee urged opposition clubs to get to President’s Park and throw their support behind the day.
He cheekily said it may be in their best interests to watch his team play while digging deep into their pockets.
“It’s a Saturday game and most of the other clubs will be playing on the Sunday, so we hope, now we’re 4-1 and starting to send a message to the league that we’re a contender for the premiership this year, they’ll want to come out and suss us out a little bit and see exactly what they will face against us,” he said.
