Werribee Giants’ hopes of pushing into the Baseball Victoria summer league division 2 top five received a set back on Sunday.

In the first round back after the Christmas break, the Giants were keen to get an early win to put the pressure back on the top sides.

The Giants faced fourth placed Doncaster at Doncaster’s diamond in Deep Creek.

The match was a high scoring one, with Doncaster getting over the line, winning 14-8.

The result has the Giants in seventh place, having played 13 matches.

The Giants this week face Port Melbourne at Port Melbourne on Sunday.

It was a tough day for the Giants women’s side on Saturday against Port Melbourne in division 3 west.

It was a good test for the Giants facing the ladder leading Port Melbourne, but they fell short, losing 13-4 at home.

The Giants sit fifth on the ladder with seven wins from their 12 matches.

There is a division wide bye this weekend in the women’s division 3 competition.

The Giants next match is on February 4 against Fitzroy.

Meanwhile it was a big week for Giants young gun Addison Bishop-Worn, who was part of the Victorian under-18 team for the national championships.

The Victorian side came away with a bronze medal, beating New South Wales 13-4 in the final.

Bishop-Worn said before the event that he was excited to see where he stood against the best under-18 players from across Australia.
