The confidence is growing at the Werribee Giants in Baseball Victoria summer league division 2.
With a focus on youth in its senior program, the Giants were prepared that it might take some time for the sides to click.
The senior side has won its last two games to take their record to 3-2 after the first five rounds.
On Sunday they beat Bonbeach 8-1.
Speaking before the match, coach Andrew Christou said they were happy with how things were tracking across the program.
He said they had been confident heading into the game against Bonbeach based on the previous week’s performance.
He said this season was about building for the future.
“We’re playing a few younger guys so they’ll get a bit more experience,” he said.
“There’s three under-18s in the seconds and two under-16s in the seconds as well.
“They’re holding their own and focused on doing what they can to hold their spots. It’s about learning and developing those younger guys in the higher grades.”
Another youngster, Addison Bishop-Worn is in the first side and is showing some good signs as well.
Christou said the older guys had been really good at helping the younger ones.
“There’s a lot of older guys out there with that experience that they can pass on to the younger ones.”
Christou said in terms of expectations for the season it was about how they develop as a side.
The Giants currently sit in fifth.
“We want to go out and try to win games,” he said.
“It’s more about progressing and learning the game and looking to win more games later in the season when we get more experience.”
The Giants women’s side lost in a high scoring affair against Fitzroy in the division 3 west competition.
The ladder leading Fitzroy claimed the win 20-16. The Giants sit in sixth spot.
