Werribee has announced its first two new signings for the 2023 Victorian Football League season.
Small forward Harry Grintell is making the move south from New South Wales to join Werribee.
The 20-year-old spent last season with Greater Western Sydney’s VFL side appearing in 17 matches after graduating from the Giants Academy.
A three-goal performance against Werribee in round nine and a 21-disposal effort against Footscray in the Giants’ final game of the season were among his best showings in 2022.
The Narrandera-talent was previously one of a handful of players invited to the draft combine from the NSW-ACT area in his draft year and played NAB League for the Giants as well.
Werribee football manager Mark Micallef said Grintell was a nice addition for the club.
“Harry is an exciting get for us as a small forward,” he said.
“He’s a country boy from Narrandera NSW, who before this year spent time with the GWS Academy where he has been involved in their senior programs.
“As a player he is skilled, hard at the footy and has a bit of cheek and we think he can really add something for us in the front half of the ground.”
Cam McLeod also joins Werribee, crossing from Essendon’s VFL-side.
The 194 centimetre McLeod got his first taste of state league footy with the club part way through the season with back-to-back appearances in rounds six and seven.
The 20-year-old former Murray Bushranger and Albury Tiger continues Werribee’s strong links with the Ovens and Murray region.
Micallef said the club was excited by McLeod’s potential.
“Cam was rated highly ahead of last year’s AFL Draft before signing with Essendon VFL,” he said.
“He possesses good marking ability, can take a strong grab up forward and hit the scoreboard.
“There’s development to come in his game and with his body but we think he can play a variety of roles for us.”
