Deer Park has the wood over Werribee Districts

Deer Park is not willing to give an inch to Werribee Districts in WRFL division 1.

The Lions have now won their past four encounters against the Tigers by an average 66 points.

That number is inflated by last year’s 136-point mauling in the grand final, but Saturday’s 51-point margin at Soldiers Reserve shows a still-significant gulf between top-of-the-ladder Lions and third-placed Tigers.

Deer Park got on top with a five-goal-to-two second quarter, to lead by 26 points at half-time. A seven-goal third term put the game out of reach of Werribee Districts.

The home side had no answers to Lions’ full-forward Brendan Fevola, who booted six goals. The supporting cast was just as dangerous – Kwame McHarg and Jase Perkins snared three goals apiece.

Lions’ forwards Perkins (47 goals), Fevola (44) and McHarg (25) have a combined 116 goals for the season.

Andrew Panayi was Werribee Districts’ most dangerous forward, with three goals. Panayi has booted 42 goals in 13 games to sit third behind Perkins and Fevola in the competition goalkicking.

Tigers’ co-captain Brent Morrow continued his good form, while Joey Halloran and Matt Dean fought hard.

Werribee Districts remain in third place – a game and percentage clear of Altona. This gap could be trimmed as the Tigers have the bye this weekend.

Hoppers Crossing cruised to a 183-point win over Wyndhamvale in a one-sided local derby at Hogans Road Reserve. Warriors’ Wayde Skipper kicked six goals in a best-afield performance, while Jordan Mead chimed in with five.

The Warriors moved to top spot on percentage ahead of a trip to Sunshine Kangaroos on Saturday.

In division 2, Manor Lakes could only manage one goal in a 158-point loss to title contenders’ Caroline Springs, leaving the Storm with plenty to do in the last month to avoid relegation

In division 3, Wyndham Suns registered a massive 39 scoring shots in a 41-point win over Laverton Magpies at Laverton Park. Rhys Kirk kicked six for the Suns, which have closed the gap to within a game and percentage of the top four.

Tarneit’s double chance hopes appear gone after a 15-point loss to Sunshine Heights at Ainsworth Reserve, while Sanctuary Lakes put up a valiant effort against Newport Power, going down by 17 points.
