Craigieburn Eagles let win slip

A last-quarter fade-out has cost Craigieburn Eagles the chance to take a 1-0 lead in their Big V men’s division 2 basketball semi-final series against Pakenham Warriors.

For three quarters, the Eagles looked headed for a first-up win in the battle for a grand final position.

They won each of the first three quarters and led by 11 points heading into the final break.

When Robert Toller-Bond hit a three-pointer for the with just under six minutes left in the game, the Eagles led by 13 points.

That’s where it started to go wrong for the Eagles. They didn’t hit a shot for the rest of the game, as they watched their lead evaporate.

The Warriors hit the lead with just under two minutes to go and once in front they stayed there for a 73-65 win.

Dexter Graham top scored with 20 points for the Eagles, playing all 40 minutes. Captain Liam Watts chipped in with 17 points.

The Eagles will have to regroup ahead of game two and if needed, game three this weekend. Both matches will be at Craigieburn.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are advertising for coaches for their division 2 women’s side and two youth league sides for next season.
