The bye has come at the wrong time for Werribee in the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant, division 2, section 1.

After a slow start the Bees have won their last two matches to move up to third on the ladder.

But they have the weekend off, with no play across the competition due to the Victorian Open.

The Bees’ Steve Weston said things had started to come together for the side.

“We’ve won the last two and we lost the third last one by four shots,” he said. “We’ve found a little bit of form.

“We’ve got the right mix at the moment.”

Weston said they had changed some of the positions over in the rinks to try and get the right mix.

He said with a couple of players returning through the second side, there was pressure on them to play well to keep their spots in the top side.

“It’s more a gelling thing now,” he said. “ It’s about getting the right mix in the four sides.

“We’re still not quite happy with the results. We had a meeting after the Keilor game and went through some little bits and pieces.

“The comradery wasn’t quite there at the start of the season.”

Weston said many of the side were still planning to hit the greens and have a practice match.

He said they would look to try a few more different things and combinations.

“Hopefully we can gel some more things together,” he said. “As we move ahead in the year, we think we can still do enough to finish in the top four.”

Weston said some of their other sides were struggling a bit so far, with the club not overly thrilled with the results.

He said it makes it hard when they can’t recruit players like some of the other clubs in the area.

Werribee next week faces Yarraville Footscray 3.
