Point Cook Football Club has rescinded a playing contract to former AFL player Josh Carter, it said in a statement on Monday.

Carter signed with the Bulldogs in the off-season having played with St Albans in the Essendon District and Western football leagues for the past five seasons.

He was a big name signing for the Bulldogs, who are rebuilding in the Western Football League division 1 competition after finishing bottom this year.

Hill, who was formerly known as Josh Hill, played 178 AFL games with the Western Bulldogs and the West Coast Eagles before being delisted by the Eagles at the end of 2017.

In the statement on Monday, Point Cook said that the club executive was made aware of developments regarding Carter. including that he has been charged by Western Australian police.

“This is a very serious matter and is being treated as such by the club,” the club said.

“Josh Hill has been stood down as a senior player and we have rescinded his playing contract and his transfer from his previous club has been cancelled.

“The club acknowledges the importance of presumption of innocence in this case and also the need to treat all parties with respect and understanding.

“It is now important that the legal process be allowed to run its court and as such the club cannot and will not make any further comment in relation to these charges while the matter is under police investigation and before the courts.”
