Boys emerging cricket squads announced

Cricket’s next generation has been named in the Cricket Victoria boys emerging under-17 and under-19 squads.

Commencing on June 29, the under-19s program closely mirrors key aspects of the senior Victorian program while also including expanded playing opportunities across different formats throughout the season.

Meanwhile Victoria’s under-17 squads have been identified out of CV’s key under-16 pathway competitions including the Country Cup, and from their performances with their Premier Cricket clubs in the Dowling Shield.

The under-19 squads will be mentored by former first-class player and experienced Dandenong and Geelong premier coach, Nick Speak, former Ryder Medallist and CV talent specialist, James Miller, and former Victorian players Travis Dean and Jon Holland.

Cricket Victoria male talent development manager Tom Evans said both squads were looking forward to the opportunities ahead.

“We’re excited by the depth of both our squads, which is a testament to the strength of our community and premier clubs, their coaches and the competitions that help to nurture and grow the next generation of Victorian cricketers,” he said.

“We look forward to continuing to develop these players as cricketers and people and giving them some opportunities to apply their skills within different formats across the program.”

The under-17 squads will be led by former Australian representative and premiership winning coach, Julien Wiener, with Shane Koop, and experienced premier cricket coaches Shannon Young and Dan Hutton.

Evans said both squads were looking forward to the opportunities ahead.

“The opportunity for players to work closely with Cricket Victoria’s high-performance staff and experienced premier cricket coaches is a vital step in players’ development, ensuring they gain a deeper understanding of the technical, tactical, physical and mental demands required to progress toward professional cricket,” he said.

Among those in the under-19 metro squad are Footscray’s Aayan Nadeem and Daniel Wilczynski, former Epping players Aryan Sharma and Gurbir Singh, former Thomastown United player Ritin Raman, and former Williamstown Colts’ Kirsh Kumar and Reyaan Farooq.

Lachlan Hay, who is from Gisborne and plays for Footscray, has been named in the under-19 country side.

In the under-17 metro squad is former Yarraville Clubber Jackson Martin, Werribee duo Luay Miraz and Simrth Singh, and Epping’s Rupptaz Kharoud have been named in the squad.

In the under-17 country squad is Romsey’s Logan Collins and Darley’s Ryder O’Brien.
