Several Western Jets players have been invited to the AFLW draft combine. More than 100 players have been selected for the combine, which will be state-based this year. The combine will be shorter this year with just one physical test, the two-kilometre time trial. Hoppers Crossing suffered a rare loss in the FV state league 2 north-west competition on Saturday. Sitting on top entering the round, the Reds were beaten 2-0 by Mill Park. The loss and Upfield’s win means the two teams switch positions. In state league 3 north-west, Point Cook lost to Westvale Olympic, 2-0. In state league 4 west, Truganina Hornets had a 1-1 win against Bell Park, while in state league 5 west, West Point lost 2-1 to Balmoral.

Western United’s vision for a female team in the A-League Women’s competition is a reality with the side being granted a licence. United announced on Thursday that it had been granted a licence to compete in the 2022-23 season. Western United chairman Jason Sourasis said this was a special day for female soccer in Melbourne’s west. “This is a special day in the history of our club,” he said. “This is one of those days that will stick out on the timeline when you look back 10, 20, 30 years from now.”
