A-League
It was raining goals on Saturday for Western United in the A-League competitions. In the women’s match with Canberra, United scored five first half goals to set the match up. They would eventually win 5-0. In the men’s match with Macarthur, United had to settle for a 2-2 draw. United played with an extra man for most of the second half, and after hitting the lead in the 60th minute, they trailed with about 10 minutes to go. A goal from Nicholas Milanovic in the 89th minute levelled the scores and gave United a point.
A-League
Western United striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls is on the move from the A-League Men’s club. United announced that both parties agreed to a mutual termination in order for the player to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Wenzel-Halls departs having made 34 appearances since the beginning of last season, scoring five goals in that time.
FV
The knockout FFA Cup will start on the weekend of February 12, with changes being made to the structure this season. Football Victoria last week announced that FV state league 4 and 5 teams would enter in round one, with state league 2 and 3 teams entering in the following round. State league 1 and National Premier League 2 and 3 teams enter on March 5, while NPL top tier teams enter the competition in late March or early April.
Baseball
The Werribee Giants suffered a thrilling loss against Port Melbourne in the Baseball Victoria summer league men’s division 2. Port Melbourne scored the only run of the game to come away with a 1-0 win on Sunday. The Giants now sit in eighth sport after 16 games, but have played two less games than many other sides.
