Baseball

Werribee Giants continued their good form in the Baseball Victoria summer league women’s division 3 west competition. After a high scoring win the previous round, the Giants beat Essendon on Saturday 15-12. The Giants sit fourth on the table with six wins after 10 rounds. The Giants face the Mitchell Majors in round 11 on Saturday.

AFL

There was no joy for the Western Jets in the AFL draft last week. Several Jets players were hoping to find their way onto lists, but none of their names were called out in the national draft on Monday and Tuesday. The rookie draft was then held on Wednesday, but Jets players were again overlooked. No players from Werribee’s Victorian Football League sides were selected either. Darley’s Aaron Cadman was taken at pick one in the national draft.

A-League

Western United will be back in action on Saturday night in the A-League men’s competition. After a competition wide break due to the world cup, the competition resumes this weekend. United travels to Perth to face Perth Glory on Saturday night, 10.30pm Victorian time. United sits 11th on the table after six rounds with just one win, only above the Glory.

WRFL

Hoppers Crossing has appointed Glenn Murrell as its coach for next year’s Western Region Football League women’s season. Murrell has been heavily involved at the Warriors for more than 30 years, having won a men’s senior best and fairest award. He’s been involved in the women’s side since the start as an assistant coach under the club’s first two assistant coaches and now steps up into the senior role. The Warriors finished bottom in division 1 without a win this season.

Baseball

Werribee Giants suffered a close loss to St Kilda in the in the Baseball Victoria summer league division 2 competition. After starting to find some form the previous week, the Giants lost to St Kilda 2-1 on Sunday. The Giants sit eighth on the ladder. The Giants this week face Cheltenham Rustlers.
