Women’s cricket

Werribee had a big win against Clifton Hill (2) in the Cricket Victoria Women’s Community Cricket shield (3) T20 competition on Sunday. The Tigers restricted Clifton Hill to 9-65 before making the runs with ease, finishing 1-66. Ishmeet Kaur and Carly Ewen each took three wickets for the Tigers. Werribee sits second on the ladder with two wins after six rounds, with its other four matches all draws due to washouts.

Baseball

It was a tough day out for the Werribee Giants in Baseball Victoria summer league men’s division 2. Coming into the match in good form, the Giants proved no match for the ladder leading Williamstown Wolves, losing 6-0. The loss leaves the Giants sitting in eighth spot. In the women’s division 3 west competition, the Giants beat the North Western Titans, 14-11. The Giants sit fifth with three wins from five games.

A-League

Western United women’s coach Mark Torcaso doesn’t have to look too deeply to see the motivation within the playing group. Just days away from their inaugural A-League match, things have been ramping up at City Vista Reserve in preparation for kick off. Torcaso, who had been the clubs’ women’s development squad coach, said it was a really exciting time for the club. “They’ve all been fantastic,” he said. “Having coached the Calder players and seeing them adapt to this environment and go to another level.” For more, head to www.starweekly.com.au.
