There were double celebrations for Laverton in the FV state league best and fairest awards. Marcelo De La Plaza claimed the men’s state league 4 west best and fairest with 31 votes, while club mate Samantha Cutajar shared the women’s state league 5 north-west award with Sydenham Park’s Elena Psaila, Both polled 14 votes.

Tarneit Central’s two teams got off to perfect starts in the Western Suburbs Churches and Community Cricket Association E.Cocks-B. Haining Shield. Tarneit Central Blue made 4-205 before bowling the Brimbank Strikers out for 114. Bhupinder Singh top scored for Tarneit with 59. Tarneit Central Red were bowled out for 124, before restricting Williams Landing to 7-120. In other matches, Point Cook beat United Tarneit and Truganina beat the Western Leadbeaters. In division 2, West Point, Williams Landing, Tarneit Central Green and United Tarneit were the winners.

Werribee Districts have announced their first new signing for next year’s Geelong and District Football League season. Jarryd Scotland joins the club having played with Sunshine in the Western Region Football League division 1 competition the last two years. He had previously also played with Tarneit and his junior days at Hoppers Crossing. Mitch Alush, Josh Sutton, Bryce Linehan-Cunningham, Zec De Leon and Jack Stephenson are among players who have re-signed.

Daniel Hovey is returning to the Wyndham Suns for the 2023 Western Region Football League season. The proven goal kicker played for Murrabit in the country this year, but has committed to the Suns for next season. The club has also announced a number of re-signings led by senior playing coach Dean Cachia. Cachia, who kicked 100 goals for the season, was named the WRFL men’s coach of the year.
