Around the grounds in Wyndham

A quick look at some of the sporting results in Wyndham on the weekend.

VTCA

The Victorian Turf Cricket Association season came to an end on Saturday for all the Wyndham first XI sides. With plenty of rain, Werribee Centrals didn’t even get on the field in division 3 against Sunbury. Point Cook suffered a final round loss to Sunshine Heights, while Laverton was skilled by Grand United for just 31. In division 5, Sanctuary Lakes finished the season by beating Wyndhamvale, with neither team making finals.

Australia Cup

West Point is through to the fourth round of the Australia Cup after victory on Saturday. West Point beat Richmond to win through to the next round. It was a much tougher day for Hoppers Crossing, which lost to Collingwood City 4-1, which also lost a reserves game 5-1.

Bowls

Werribee will head into the Bowls Victoria weekend pennant division 2, section 1 finals full of confidence after beating Williamstown on Saturday. The Bees won three of the four rinks, winning 80 (16)-65 (2) to seal second spot. The clubs’ division 4, and the club’s top division 5 side also made finals. Finals start this week. Snowy Barker was named the club’s bowler of the weekend pennant season. The club will have four sides in mid-week finals, with the division 2 and 3 teams finishing second and the division 4 teams finishing first and third in their respective sections.

Athletics

It was a Wyndham one-two in the Athletics Victoria Shield League division 2 championship playoffs on Saturday at Lakeside Stadium. Western Athletics claimed the title ahead of Wyndham Track and Field. The two teams, with share facilities, will be promoted to premier division for next season. Wyndham has climbed three divisions in three years as a result of the latest promotion.
