Big V

There were mixed results for Wyndham in the Big V women’s state championship competition on the weekend. On Saturday night, Wyndham lost to the Sunbury Jets, 78-64 with a poor first half proving costly. Wyndham bounced back in a big way, beating the Southern Peninsula Sharks on Sunday, 114-58. Dyani Ananiev top scored with 33 points, with Wyndham having just seven players. Despite the loss on Saturday night, Wyndham remain on top of the ladder. Wyndham’s men’s state championship side had an 110-80 win against the Chelsea Gulls.

The Westbourne Grammarians had a long day against South Melbourne Districts in the Victorian Amateur Football League division 3 on Saturday. The struggling Grammarians were no match for the Districts in the 26.8 (164)-2.8 (20) win. Cooper Read, Benjamin Hodge and Nathan Dang were the Grammarians best. The Grammarians sit bottom without a win. This week they face Hawthorn.

Werribee Centrals got a much needed win in the Geelong and District Football League on Saturday against Belmont. Belmont started the better of the two teams, before an eight goal to one second quarter gave the Centrals the lead. They continued to build from there and would go on to win, 15.13 (103)-9.14 (68). Jessee Pattison kicked four goals for the Centrals and was named their best. Centrals sit ninth on the ladder after their third win of the season. This week they face Bell Post Hill.

It was a mixed weekend for the Werribee Centrals in the Geelong and District Netball League. Facing Belmont, Centrals’ A and B-grade sides both got wins, while the C and D-grade sides suffered losses. In A-grade, Centrals won 35-27. Centrals sit fourth on the ladder with eight wins, two games behind ladder leaders Thomson.
