All aboard as Werribee City hits top form

The bandwagon is starting to fill up for Werribee City in the National Premier League Victoria 2 west.

Nobody wanted a bar of the Bees from rounds eight to 12 when they went goal-less in a five-game losing streak.

But the worm has turned for the Bees, who are riding a three-game winning streak and are undefeated in the past five games.

Werribee City produced an exciting performance in a 3-1 win over Nunawading City at Galvin Park on Sunday.

A first half goal from boom recruit George Slefendorfas ensured the Bees went to the break locked at 1-1.

It was all Werribee City after half time with goals to Cameron Davies and Bradley Murray securing the three points.

The Bees, once a sitting duck for opposition teams, are suddenly the side nobody wants to face.

They will still go in as underdogs when face Dandenong Thunder away on Saturday night, a title contending side from the east.

In state league 2, Hoppers Crossing has been knocked off its perch at the top of the ladder.

The Reds were playing catch up all game in a 3-2 loss to Hume United at Laura Douglas Reserve on Saturday.

Daniel Sweeney and Fab Albuquerque scored in the second half for the Reds, but it was not enough.

With the state league divisions have a mid-season break for a catch up round, the Reds will have two weeks to stew on the result before facing Diamond Valley United at Grange Reserve on July 15.

In state league 4, Truganina Hornets were pipped 1-0 by Balmoral away at Balmoral Park.

The Hornets go into the break sitting third-last with just 12 points.

In women’s state league 3, Point Cook remains four points clear at the top after a 2-1 win over Altona Magic on the road at Paisley Park.

Both of the Jets goals, scored by Mya Moran and Sophie Plessa, came in the first half.
