AFLW is coming to Werribee.

The AFL has announced the practice match schedule ahead of the season which kicks off in 50 days.

A round of match stimulation games will be held on the weekend of July 25, before a round of practice matches the following weekend.

North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos will hold Essendon at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday, August 2, from 12pm.

The Kangaroos have a partnership with the tenants of Avalon Airport Oval, Werribee, including its Victorian Football League Women’s side being known as North Melbourne-Werribee.

The practice matches will be the first chance for fans to get a glimpse of their teams and new recruits ahead of the AFLW premiership season which gets underway on August 14.

AFL football operations executive general manager Laura Kane said practice matches and match simulation training provides clubs the chance to have a strong hit out before the season.

“As anticipation builds towards the start of the AFLW’s 10th season, Practice Matches and Match Simulation Trainings provide clubs with an opportunity to test themselves against their competition ahead of the season officially getting underway on August 14,” she said.

“We know there’s an enormous amount of hard work and preparation that goes into every pre-season from across the board – players, coaches and staff – and we’re looking forward to seeing the teams in action for the first time this year.

“Fans can attend the practice matches for free, so I’d encourage everyone to head along to connect with their new draftees, watch their favourite players and experience AFLW.”
