VFL: Top Werribee Tigers tick the right boxes

The Werribee Tigers will have a new-look leadership group this year.

The Tigers have bestowed the honour of captaincy on small defender Michael Sodamaco.

The four-man leadership group includes former AFL-listed players Ben Speight and Jesse Crichton, who have joined Scott Sherlock as vice-captains.

Tigers coach John Lamont said there would be no shortage of experience for the rest of the team to draw on.

“I believe we have some excellent leaders in our group,” he said.

“The four names ticked all the boxes for the coaching staff … the playing group could have no finer role models.

“Between these four, there are more than 200 games of VFL experience as well as time on AFL lists and state representation.

“We have a young list and the right blokes to lead them into the fray each week.”

Werribee will face Footscray in its second VFL practice match at the Whitten Oval from 2pm on Saturday.

The Tigers are working feverishly to be ready for their season opener against Geelong under lights at Avalon Airport Oval on April 17.

Promising young Tigers Brody Mihocek, Daniel Davie, Joe Maishman, Matt Hanson and Mitch Van Den Berg have been included in the VFL Academy squad.
