Kangaroos stars head to Wyndham for community camp

North Melbourne players including Drew Petrie, Brent Harvey and Nick Dal Santo will be kicking around Wyndham next week.

As part of its AFL Community Camp held over two days on February 19 and 20, the Kangaroos will visit schools, football clubs and community groups and hold a footy clinic at Chirnside Park in Werribee.

The visit builds on Wyndham’s strong relationship with North Melbourne which includes its alignment with Werribee in the VFL and The Huddle program, which was last year awarded a council grant to deliver school and multicultural programs across the city.

Established in 2010, The Huddle’s programs target young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds in North Melbourne, Flemington, Kensington, West Melbourne and Wyndham.

Mayor Peter Maynard said the camp was a great opportunity for young people to get active and learn footy skills with the help of AFL stars.

“This is the perfect chance for our younger community members to interact with their favourite players and coaches and gain a new appreciation of the great game.

“Our partnership with the Kangaroos is going from strength to strength and will only be bolstered as we move forward.

“The club have recently announced exclusive alignment with Werribee Football Club for the 2016 and 2017 seasons and we are thrilled to have them helping us grow our future stars.”

Kangaroos midfielder Nick Dal Santo said he was looking forward to finding the next generation of AFL champions.

“Kids are the future of football and we need to encourage their participation right from the grass-roots level.”
