Point Cook has slumped to a heavy opening round defeat to Williamstown CYMS in Victorian Turf Cricket Association west A1.
It was a baptism of fire for the promoted Warriors on their trip to Fearon Reserve, facing a CYs side relegated from the strong second tier of the competition.
The Warriors failed miserably with the bat, all out for 99.
Tyson Pearce top-scored with 27 from No.7 in a Warrior effort littered with uncapitalised starts.
CYs went on to double the visitors’ score with 5-198 from their allotted 40 overs.
Alex Shanks was a bright spot in the Warriors’ attack, taking 3-35 from his maximum eight overs.
In the local derby, Wyndhamvale emerged victorious over Werribee Centrals by 25 runs on home turf at Wyndhamvale Reserve.
The Falcons were on shaky ground after posting just 131, with wicketkeeper Joel Roze leading the way with 26 not out.
But their bowlers were magnificent, restricting Centrals to 106, with a large chunk of the runs (40) coming from Trent Milne.
New-ball duo Chris Plummer (3-12) and Ryan Radford (3-20) were thorns in the side of the Centrals batsmen.
In senior division, Hoppers Crossing lost by 32 runs to St Bernard’s Old Collegians.
The Cats will be at home for the first time this season on Saturday for a two-day game against South Caulfield.
In west B1, Seabrook beat Kingsville Baptists by 51 runs at Angliss Reserve. The Saints put on a batting master class for 7-231 off 40 overs.
Opener Robert Engler set the tone for the Saints with 54. The Saints defended their total comfortably with three wickets apiece to Hitesh Bavarva and Mitchell Haberecht.
In Williamstown and District Cricket Association A turf, Bellbridge comprehensively beat Williamstown Congs by 123.
Josh Downie (74) and Matthew Edsall (51) were the cornerstones of Bellbridge’s imposing score of 8-198.
The Congs were skittled for just 75 with Jake Styles (3-19) and Patrick Lee (3-9) impressing.
In Geelong Cricket Association division 3, Little River went down by four wickets to Bell Park on the road at Hamlyn Park.
