Pupils from primary schools across the western suburbs flocked to Werribee last week to take part in an athletics carnival hosted by Wyndham Track and Field Club.
The modified non-competitive program, a first for the region, was put together as part of a partnership with the International Association of Athletics Federations’ Healthy Kids initiative, Athletics Australia and the Australian Sports Commission to encourage children to be active and involved in sport.
The aim of the games-based carnival was teaching children the basics of running, jumping and throwing.
The Wyndham club’s children’s athletics summer kick-start program starts on October 26.
