FFV: Hoppers Crossing extends lead at top of the table

Hoppers Crossing Reds had a resounding 5-0 away win against Melton Phoenix at MacPherson Park on Saturday night.

The win extended the Reds’ lead at the top of the table to seven points from second-placed FC Strathmore. Hoppers Crossing has game in hand and a 22-goal better goal difference.

On Saturday, the visitors had the upper hand for majority of the first half and John Little put the ball into the back of the net after 13 minutes to have the Reds 1-0 up. 

The Reds doubled their lead on 20 minutes great through ball put in Liam McDermott, who headed into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Twelve minutes later, Hoppers added another following a good build-up which led to Tom Ordanhl pulling the trigger from distance and banging it into the net.

Melton Phoenix had half a chance but kicked it straight into Hoppers Crossing goalkeeper Shaun Page. Scores were 3-0 at half time..

Four minutes after half time interval, McDermott kicked another for a 4-0 lead.

The Reds continued to press forward and were unlucky not to score. Right on fulltime, Zia Sherzai scored from close range to give the Reds a 5-0 result.

The Reds are at home against second bottom side Brimbank Stallions at Grange Reserve on Saturday afternoon. The reserves kick off at 1pm, with the senior game from 3pm.

Score: Melton Phoenix 0 lost to Hoppers Crossing 5 (John Little 13’, Liam McDermott 20’ 49’ Tom Ordanhl 32’ and Zia Sherzai 90’).
