FFV: Young Bees swarm into Victorian Premier League

Werribee City’s faith in youth has paid massive dividends with the Bees sealing promotion to the top-tier Victorian Premier League.

The side began last weekend in third place and managed to snatch second off Sunshine George Cross.

The second-versus-third match-up on the final day ended with the Bees claiming a 1-0 win at Galvin Park on Saturday.

As is so often the case, Leigh Minopoulos was the star for the Bees, scoring the winning goal a minute into the second half.

Hoppers Crossing survived the drop to finish ninth in state league 4 but could not avoid a disappointing 3-1 last-round road loss to Surf Coast.

In state league 5, Point Cook has earned promotion at the first time of asking, sealing second place with a 2-0 win over Brimbank Stallions at Saltwater Reserve.

Truganina Hornets finished their second season in 13th place after an entertaining 5-3 away win over Spring Hills FC in the final game.
