VAFA: Werribee Districts face relegation

WERRIBEE Districts coughed up a 15-point three-quarter time lead to lose by five points to Ajax in Victorian Amateur Football Association premier B at Soldiers Reserve on Saturday.

The Tigers were in command for the opening three quarters on the back of good work from Aaron Taylor, Conor Purton and Travis Dean, but failed to seal the deal.

They would be left to rue inaccurate kicking in the last quarter, converting just two of seven scoring shots.

Three games and a hefty percentage away from survival, the young Tigers will be relegated from the VAFA’s second tier, most likely with the wooden spoon.

In division 3, Old Westbourne Grammarians came close to breaking their duck in the battle of the bottom two. The Warriors went down to South Mornington by seven points after scores were level at three-quarter time at Citation Oval.

The Warriors remain winless and will finish with the wooden spoon.

Point Cook had a bye in division 4, but managed to keep hold of fourth spot. The Bulldogs will host third-last Mount Lilydale at Saltwater Reserve on Saturday.
