Foxtel Cup: Werribee cup campaign ends in deluge defeat

WERRIBEE’S trip east to Perth to contest the Foxtel Cup semi-final against East Fremantle was a miserable one, the Tigers losing 2.4 (16) to 6.4 (40).

The game, played last Tuesday night at Patersons Stadium, was marred by torrential rain that resulted in a low-scoring slog in extremely wet and heavy conditions.

East Fremantle kicked three goals in the opening term. Had it not scored from then on, it would still have won the game.

It led by 29 at half-time, with the Tigers’ only two goals coming through Ben McKinley and Cam Tudor.

Ben Brown, Werribee’s best, handled much of the ruckwork after Majak Daw was concussed following an accidental bump from Ben Speight. He returned to the field but was withdrawn from the game before half-time.

Ayden Kennedy impressed in the backline, while Will Sierakowski and Jack Purton-Smith were also good.

The Tigers, runners-up in the Foxtel Cup last year, were eliminated from the cup.
