WRFL: Warriors in shock loss to Kangaroos

HOPPERS Crossing barely provided a yelp in a shock 63-point loss to Sunshine Kangaroos in the Western Region Football League division 1 at Kinder Smith Reserve on Saturday.

The Warriors were on the back foot in an instant, trailing seven goals to three at quarter-time — and it only got worse.

While the Kangaroos are proving a rejuvenated force with former Western Bulldogs Mitch Hahn in the ranks, the Warriors did not help their own cause, converting just 10 of 27 scoring shots.

They will find it hard to make a return to the winner’s circle with reigning premiers Altona Vikings paying them a visit on Saturday.

In division 2, it was Yze does it for Glenorden, who took outright top spot with a 97-point dismantling of Manor Lakes in super Sunday football at Heathdale Reserve. The Hawks handed a debut to one-time Melbourne star Adem Yze, who booted seven goals and combined with his brother Damien (six) for 13 of the team’s 24 goals.

John Zangari, Tristan Angelini and Marc Yates were the top-three players for the high-flying Hawks. Not even five goals from Mathew Zurek could kick-start Sanctuary Lakes in its 56-point loss to Braybrook at Pennell Reserve.
