GDFL: Bounce goes Werribee Central’s way

WHAT a difference a week makes in the Geelong and District Football League Cup.

Coming off a horrid game against Bell Post Hill seven days earlier, Werribee Centrals bounced back to annihilate East Geelong by 127 points on the road on Saturday.

Even with a list of injuries long enough to fill a complete side, Centrals look switched on right from the first bounce and had their opponents’ measure with ruckman Nathan Lovell giving onballers first use of the ball.

Luke Salmond, Brayden Montebruno, Michael Cassidy and Brad McNicol feasted on the service, sending the ball into attack where six-goal star Tyren Montebruno, Phil Jones and Chris Koutzamanis peppered the goals.

A 10-goal first quarter set the game up beautifully for Centrals and they continued the onslaught in the second quarter, even when Lovell moved to full-forward for a well-earned rest and chipped in with a lazy five goals of his own.

It was a different looking side with Ryan Cornish returning from Queensland to play his first game for the season and the addition of a couple more youngsters in Blake Raymond and Matt Walson adding youthful exuberance

Centrals barely gave East a sniff in the first half and it was more of the same after half-time.

GDFL SCOREBOARD

Seniors: Werribee Centrals 25.9 (159) d East Geelong 4.8 (32).
