VAFA: First-term blues hit Werribee Districts again

A SCORELESS opening term left winless Werribee Districts playing catch-up for the duration of a 98-point loss to Old Melburnians in the Victorian Amateur Football Association Premier B at Soldiers Reserve on Saturday.

The bottom-of-the-table Tigers have endured their reported struggles early in games this season with just one goal in four first quarters and it was no different out of the gates on Saturday.

But the second term was more encouraging with the Tigers coming out of the quarter-time huddle breathing fire and producing a four-goal-to-one second term. They trailed by 23 points at half-time, not an insurmountable deficit. But Old Melburnians, who kicked an impeccable 23 goals from 29 attempts, had other ideas and restored order with a punishing 15 goals to two second half to run out comfortable winners.

Old Westbourne has taken another battering in division 3, this time from Swinburne University by 89 points at the Westbourne School Ground.

The slow-starting Warriors could only manage one first half goal, but added some respectability to the scoreboard with four second-half goals, including two from Brad Saunders.
