Like dad, Mitch has a ball

WHEN basketballer Mitch Angelton takes to the court in Adelaide in July to represent Victoria at the national championships, no one will be prouder than his dad, Craig.

Having played basketball when he was younger, he was keen to see Mitch give up football and spend some time on the court. His persistence paid off when Mitch (pictured) began playing basketball at age 11.

Now 15, Mitch is a member of Victoria’s national championship squad. Mitch said he was ecstatic when he found out he had been chosen to represent Victoria, after working hard during try-outs and training sessions.

“Initially there was 130 guys. It was cut to 60, then 40, then 32 and then 20. We then trained for two weeks and the group was cut to 10 for the team and five emergencies. It was a lot of hard work.”

Mitch has been training with the state team for the past three weeks, putting in two hours every Saturday and Sunday. He also plays basketball three times a week for domestic and Werribee’s under-16 representative teams.
