GDNL: Slow-starting Centrals prevail

WERRIBEE Centrals are proving a hard nut to crack in the Geelong and District Netball League A grade.

The Centurions were undermanned, but still found a way to beat the always-competitive Belmont Lions 44-24 on Saturday.

Mid-counter Hailey Sildatke was dominant for the Centurions, while defender Noni McClure and goaler Ellie Tubbs were not far behind.

Tubbs scored 27 goals and worked in tandem with Mickayla Ward, who landed 17.

The Centurions struggled to find their feet early in the contest, making a slow start to a physical encounter.

Positional changes in the mid court and some half-time directions allowed the Centurions to start the second half in a fresh frame of mind.

They were much better in the last half, linking well in the mid court, showing tremendous determination on the defence to create turnovers and giving the goalers much better service.
